Social Justice

Time, Talent, and Treasure Towards A Better World

The Social Justice Committee coordinates these programs:

Share the Plate

The committee selects a monthly recipient of this special collection from among the many non-profit organizations in the area, based on suggestions from the congregation, and our UU values. The committee arranges for a representative to present information about the organization at a first Sunday service, or online.

Volunteering

Volunteers are enlisted for our twice-monthly assistance at Jackson House, and when school is in session, for reading to children at Langston School.

Collection Bins

Non-perishable foods are collected for the Jackson House pantry, and household items for Clarion Call.  In the summer new kid’s jeans are collected for Jackson House.

UUSC

The Social Justice Committee promotes individual membership in the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, (www.uusc.org) through the "UUSC Justice Sunday" program and "Guest at Your Table." UUSC partners with local groups in many countries and in the US to advance human rights, especially for the most marginalized.

Public Policy

UUVC is one of over 50 member organizations of the Arkansas Citizens First Congress (CFC), which advocates for progressive legislation in the state.  Volunteers encourage congregants to contact legislators regarding specific issues.
